CURRENTLY IN THE GALLERY

Christopher Kurber: Industrial Casting Forms and Art Work
Opening Saturday, Feb 9, 2008 3-6 PM
Exhibition runs through April 5, 2008
Born in Burmingham, Michigan, Kurber moved to the Berkshires in 1972, living in Pittsfield until finally settling in Berlin, NY. Recently he purchased a home in North Adams, and plans to open a decorative arts shop in town in the near future. He began collecting industrial antiques and one-of-a-kind objects twenty-five years ago which he showcased in a shop in Lanesboro, MA.
The current exhibition at the Gallery at North Adams Antiques will consist of a large selection and variety of sizes of early 20th Century wooden casting molds for American Hoist and Derrick Co. of Minneapolis, Minn. Made from mahogany, these precise forms were carved by master craftsmen for the production of various industrial machinery. Although these objects were originally created for practical uses, they have become a sought-after decorative art form.
In addition to the casting forms, Kurber will be exhibiting a series of recent drawings and sculpture.

MIRA: Paintings and Sculpture by Andreas Wittstock
April 5, 2008- May 10, 2008
Opening Saturday, April 5, 2008, 3-6:00PM
The Gallery at North Adams Antiques is pleased to present and exhibition of the work of Andreas Wittstock.
Wittstock was born in Mexico City to French and German parents. As a youth he worked as a scuba diver on the Pacific coast of Mexico in Zihuatanejo He first came to the Berkshires to study yoga and bodywork, and in 1999 moved to New York State where he studied ‘faux’ painting with a master painter. He worked on restorations for two years, and subsequently produced decorative backdrops for opera companies in the Berkshires, Mexico and Greece. He now lives in Becket, MA. Currently, he uses his sense of color and texture to advise and work on commercial and residential interiors and exteriors.
Wittstock creates distressed surfaces that remind one of metal, wood or stone. His objects are reconfigured found materials. Whether paint on canvas or assemblages of found objects, his art reflects both his heritage and his spiritual path. He approaches all subject matter with humor and sensitivity.

The shop will be open Wed.-Sun., 10-6. After Memorial Day, hours will be extended to every day, 9:30-4.
